Just a quick update.

I got to hear the ever popular VAF loudspeakers at the Melbourne hifi over the weekend and I was very impressed by what I heard.
They had the DC-X floorstanders running in 2 channel mode and in 5.1 with DC-7 as rears and a DC-6 as centre. The overall soundstage was large and quite accurate in terms of instrument positioning, especially for speakers of this modest price.
The DC series were a touch on the bright side with treble being a little harsh at times but that could be due to the fact that they were straight out of the box and had no time to break in. Bass was excellent, controlled and at a volume level that makes you start looking for a subwoofer that wasnt even wired into the system! (yes, they were that good.)
All I want to hear now is the signature series to see how much better than the DC series they are. From all reports the top end brightness disappears and the bass is even more impressive. As always I will reserve my judgement until I hear them myself ;)

Build quality seemed excellent (especially on the signature series) but I was dissapointed that there wasnt any speakers there that were finished in the Piano Palasander finish. Ah well, I guess that will have to wait for my next trip to Adelaide :)

Just wondering what the general consensus was on Aussie loudspeakers. Who are your favourites and if you could have any Aussie speakers in your own home regardless of price, which manufacturer would get the nod?

I have heard Krix, Sonique, Whatmough, Legend and some others and my faves were Legend and Sonique.

If you happen to select other, let us know what brand you prefer.

Cheers,

More new goodies to drool over!!

Krix have updated their famous Lyrix speakers to the new Lyrix Gold. They have also released the Symphonix. The Lyrix Gold retail for $1500 and the Symphonix are $2000.

Check out www.krix.com for more info.

Arcam have just launched their new home theatre pre/pro and power amp. This is from their FMJ (full metal jacket) line of  products which is their top flite gear.

First off the Pre/pro... the FMJ AV8 Preamp processor. Heres a pdf (only info I can dig up on it)

http://www.arcam.co.uk/downloads/Microsoft%20Word%20-%20FMJAV8flier.pdf

Secondly the power stage.... the FMJ P7 power amp. Here is its PDF document.

http://www.arcam.co.uk/downloads/FMJP7flier.pdf

Now for the bad part - the price. The pre is £2995 and the power is £2495 (thats british pounds if you didnt notice the symbol at the front ;) )

If I had the cash, this would be one of the top contenders for running my main theatre.

More info as it comes to hand. :)
